The sE Electronics VR1 is a ribbon microphone designed to deliver the superbly detailed, open, and warm sound ribbon mics are known for, with a full frequency response that captures far more high-frequency detail than traditional ribbon designs. Until the VR series, the only ribbon microphone capable of performing across the full 20 Hz-18 kHz frequency range was sE’s own Rupert Neve collaboration, the RNR1. The VR series continues that innovation with a clever mechanical design developed by Siwei Zou, sE Electronics’ CEO, combined with a hand-tensioned ribbon constructed by highly specialized technicians in sE’s capsule room. The VR1 also features built-in phantom power protection, helping safeguard the microphone during studio use. The VR1 is a passive ribbon microphone, designed to bring out the bite and edge of guitar cabinets without muddy highs while maintaining the natural warmth and smooth character ribbon microphones are prized for. From electric guitar amps and drum overheads to acoustic instruments, piano, brass, woodwinds, and orchestral recordings, the VR1 delivers detailed, balanced sound across a wide range of studio and live applications. Each ribbon element is individually hand-tensioned to ensure consistent performance and precise transient response, while the microphone’s ultra-slim chassis, less than 3/4 inch thick, allows for easy placement against guitar cabinets, drum heads, and other tight recording setups. The VR1 acoustic guitar mic also features a custom shockmount that allows the microphone to be centered within the mount and positioned in multiple orientations, making it easy to angle the mic exactly where it sounds best. Built for reliability, the microphone’s all-metal housing helps reject electrical interference and unwanted noise, while the gold-plated XLR connector ensures clean, dependable signal connection for years of demanding studio or stage use.
