McLane saw great flurries of mud and clods of grass thrown up by the churning tracks. The APCs were slewing sideways in the soft boggy ground as they raced towards the farmhouse, heedless of any danger. They slammed to a halt two hundred yards short of the main building, on the far side of the low stone fence.
